    If you have not had an ownership-interest in a property for the past 3 years, you could qualify as a first-time homebuyer and take advantage of certain programs designed to help you achieve the dream of homeownership. Our highly experienced loan officers are here to help walk you through every step of on the road to homeownership.

    UHFCU will determine eligibility for special programs offered by the local, state and federal government such as Down Payment Assistance and Mortgage Credit Certificate. These specialty programs are combined with any of our conventional loans and can reduce your out of pocket costs and/or provide regular annual savings in the form of tax credits.

    • Mortgage Credit Certificate Program

      The Mortgage Credit Certificate Program was authorized by Congress in the 1984 Tax Reform Act as a means of providing housing assistance to families of low and moderate income. UHFCU is an approved Participating Lender with the Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation (HHFDC) who is an Issuer of Mortgage Credit Certificates.

      A Mortgage Credit Certificate (MCC) reduces the amount of federal income tax you pay, thus giving you more available income to qualify for a mortgage loan and assist you with house payments. MCC’s are approved on a first-come first-served basis subject to the availability of funds. At this time there is a one-time $425 program fee.

    • Down Payment Assistance Program

      In partnership with the City and County of Honolulu and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, UHFCU is proud to offer a zero percent interest loan to qualified low– and moderate– income families to meet down payment re-quirements for a home purchase.

      The maximum amount of assistance to be provided is $40,000 and is offered on a first-come first-served basis subject to the availability of funds. The property must be located on the island of Oahu and meet certain property and structure re-quirements. At this time, there is no fee to take advantage of this program.
