5 Tips for Holiday Shopping

    5 Tips for Holiday Shopping

    1. Value your relationships
Write down everyone you plan to give gifts—from your nearest and dearest to your in-laws and co-workers. Then put a dollar figure next to each name. Setting price limits help you keep your holiday budget on track.
    2. Be proactive
When you see a good deal, don’t wait; just get it. One of the sure-fire ways to overspend is to wait until the last minute and buy all your gifts in a rush. Plus, all the good items are usually gone. As a result, you are more likely to overspend, making an already stressful time of the year even more so.
    3. Stay on top of your spending
Don’t forget to review your account statements weekly, paying your bills regularly, and using online banking to monitor your accounts. If you purchase using a credit card, using a card that offers cash back or rewards is another bright holiday budgeting tip. Since you’re going to spend the money anyway, you might as well get something—cash back or travel deals—in return.
    4. Make gifts
A great way to save on gift-making is homemade presents. They can be cookies or baked goods that are always good to pass out to your co-workers. These gifts might not work for everyone on your list, but they’re good options for the budget.
    5. Factor shipping costs
Now that you have done shopping, it’s time to deliver your gifts. Think about how many gifts are being sent and factor in the shipping cost. Add that all up and see if you are still making a budget or going over budget. It adds up once you start shipping multiple gifts to the mainland or internationally.
